Wall Street remain subdued as brent tops $100 per barrel

US equities declined on Wednesday amid heightened investor apprehensions fueled by a substantial surge in Brent crude oil prices, which breached the significant $100-a-barrel mark for the first time since July as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East escalated. The Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated 405.41 points, representing a decrease of 0.77%, to settle at 52,380.66.

The S&P 500 retreated 0.48% to 7,636.36, and the Nasdaq Composite decreased 0.64% to settle at 26,253.34. US Treasury yields advanced after the Treasury Department announced it would increase its repurchase of longer-term government debt to $6 billion. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note ascended to 4.87%, the highest level since November 2023.
